ESOL Teams
Empower Future Church Leaders with the Gift of English
New Zealanders like you can play a vital role in our mission! Become an ESOL volunteer teacher and help emerging Christian Leaders open doors to the world of Christian academic literature, the wider community of believers and greatly increase their impact.
What you can expect as an ESOL teacher
Volunteers take students through an immersive English course to help them with their academic English skills in mainly reading and writing.
The English course is to prepare students for their postgraduate theological study, which is taught in English. The curriculum is developed with teaching books provided.
Students in our partner schools are passionate about making a difference in the world, and as an ESOL teacher you will be playing an essential and integral role in extending their language ability. This is something that will be invaluable in their ministry in the years to come.
Past and present volunteers have enjoyed working in a team and find it a very rewarding experience.

ESOL volunteers need:
English language teaching qualifications (e.g. CELTA, TESOL certificate, DELTA or similar) or trained primary or secondary teacher, and experience with young adults.
Initiative and reasonable resilience to face cross-cultural challenges.
To be able to cope with some reasonably basic conditions and the Asian climate.
I can’t go into the jungles of the Shan State to reach an unreached people group and to start translating the Bible into its own language. But a young man called Stephen can go and he has – Intensive English Programme (IEP) played a big part in that and I was one of his teachers.
