Sergio and Joanna are a couple from Vanuatu who are both currently studying at CLTC, in Papua New Guinea. Due to financial difficulties the couple are in PNG with only their daughter, while their older sons remain in Vanuatu with family.
Sergio became a Christian at 22 years old after being moved by a pastor’s preaching. He then got involved in Youth ministry and eventually became the regional youth secretary for the Presbyterian church.
For Sergio and Joanna, the life they live is the result of an outpouring of the faith they have and obedience to Christ alone. This comes out in every aspect of their lives: their marriage, ministry, home life, and friendships with neighbours.
Previously, Sergio received a Bachelor of Ministry (B-Min) from Talua Theological Training Institute in Vanuatu. He was also a parish pastor caring for seven congregations and part-time youth coordinator for the Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu for awhile. In 2022 he was invited to join the faculty at Talua Theological Training Institute, but he decided instead to further his studies at CLTC to study Master of Theology (MTh 1). Joanna is also studying at CLTC working towards a Certificate in Bible Ministry.
Both Sergio and Joanna feel very privileged to have the opportunity to be in Papua New Guinea. They have deepened their knowledge and skills at CLTC, which they plan to use to equip their church and community. While at CLTC, Sergio has been making use of the materials available at the library to prepare Bible Study materials for his home church. After graduation, his plan is to return to teach at the Bible college in Vanuatu.
The greatest challenge Sergio and Joanna face at CLTC is the financial burden. Receiving student sponsorship would enable them to participate fully in class while giving them the opportunity to develop their skills as they broaden their knowledge of the word of God so that they may be a blessing to others.
If Sergio and Joanna’s story touches your heart, we ask that you prayerfully consider sponsoring him or another student seeking student sponsorship.
