Recently Robert Frykenberg, Professor Emeritus of History & South Asian Studies, University of Wisconsin, and a committed Christian, donated the vast bulk of his unique personal library collection, specialising in Asian history, to the South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies (SAIACS) in South Asia, in a gesture to support Indian students. The shipping and logistics were arranged and covered by Beacon Partnerships.
Now in his late eighties, and retired to his home in Madison, Wisconsin, Bob visited SAIACS to teach some years ago, but was forced to stop travelling because of fragile health.
Faculty staff from SAIACS see the donation of the collection as a valuable contribution to the development of their learning resources.
“SAIACS library is honoured to have part of Prof. Frykenberg’s personal library collection on South Asian history, sociology and other valuable resources in our archives,” says Yesan Sellan, Chief Librarian at SAIACS.
Church leaders may have a Bible in their own language, but it’s not a given. In most cases contextual poverty means they have limited access to practical tools and learning resources to help them understand, interpret and deepen their understanding of scripture.
Through the work of Resource, leaders – of all ages and stages – are supplied with a wide range of crucial learning resources which effectively bridge the gap for them between poverty and potential, calling and confidence.
